Why did I decide to study Software Engineering

I wanted to become literate in the language that is driving the future, code.

Some years back I took a series of classes in C++ programming in Pleasant Hill, California and obtained a Certificate of Achievement on Advanced C++ programming and Computer Architecture. This laid the groundwork and really peaked my interest and imagination on what was possible when code and ingenuity are combined. Consequently I was working in the public affairs department of a non-profit which exposed me to the inner workings of their online publishing platform WP and had me working with their content management system. In other words, I was introduced to the world of HTML and how it interacts with CSS. I participated on social marketing campaigns from the “back-end” by customizing URLs and learning to use Google analytics to keep track of campaigns’ progress and ensure we were reaching our desired audience.

It is well known that change is the only constant in life. I changed jobs and I found myself working as an e-commerce project coordinator with an emphasis in q&a of weekly updates and the content management system of the seasonal merchandising on their mobile platform.

I never cease to be amazed by the number of teams that need to come together to drive the online presence of a large multi-national company, from CMS, to native app mobile teams, DevOps, to merchandising, etc. etc.

On a daily basis I am exposed to how teams communicate and collaborate with each other with the goal of a fully operational platform that is used daily by millions of people and this knowledge and experience is what tipped the scale for me and made the decision easy-I wanted to become a software engineer.
